Come on, we ALL wanted this to happen during that episode!

I think I missed the theme of this, but I would say it would be conflict since Luna steps in against Queen Chrysalis, but whatever!

It's clear though that if Celestia couldn't win Luna wouldn't be able to either as Luna is no more powerful then Celestia and arguablly even a bit weaker because Luna was without training for a 100 years. Meaning while they may of of similiar power Celestia has greater skill.

On the other hoof Celestia had to make use of the Elements of Harmony to banish Nightmare Moon 1,000 years ago. In episode one when the mane six have the Elements of Harmony and Celestia does not Nightmare Moon is able to defeat Celestis (off screen) and prevent the sun from rising.

Princess Luna was cleansed of Nightmare Moon by the Elements of Harmony, but if that power is still trapped inside of her she may stand a chance.

We also need to consider how much love Chrysalis has had to feed off of. It was a surprise, even to her, that she had consumed enough of Shining Armors love to defeat Celestia.

In many ways Nightmare Moon could be call a superpowered evil side by being changed by some dark magic or spell. It is understandable that 1000 years ago is Celestia and Luna were around the same power and her sister gained a 'power up' by dark magic. By becoming Nightmare Moon Celestia found herself facing an opponent stronger then herself... forcing her to us the Elements of Harmony.

I always figured Luna was weaker because she was younger. Not by much, mind you. But simply not strong enough to defeat Chrysalis. As awesome as it would have been if Luna had tried to fight her, she only would have been hurt too. Perhaps worse.
That's just my POV, of course. I could be wrong.

I hope fans stop trying to say that Luna is better and/or stronger just because she is their favorite.

I like them both in totally different ways. Celestia's stats are Epicness: 10 and Awesomeness: 2 while Luna's are Epicness: 4 and Awesomeness: 10.

Laughs, though are interesting stats... yet point for point you still have Luna just a 'bit' higher. :)

Myself, Luna is my favorite but Celestia is very much worthy of respect.
